Alicante

Upon arrival at the Alicante train station we noticed a familiar sign, the maple leaf had travelled far to remind us of our Canadian friends. Since it was evening we skipped the donut and coffee break so I cannot report on the quality of this Timmy branch.

The main attractions in Alicante are the medieval castle that sits above the town, the beach and waterfront area, and the old town center. Overall it is a relatively small town with a beach vibe. The marina waterfront merges with the tree lined boulevard making for a nice area for shops and restaurants.

We stayed across the street from the central market making it convenient to run across the street for fresh food during the frequent rain showers. We did have a few hours of clear enough weather to cover the town on foot a few times. Outside of the castle, waterfront, and a few blocks of old town Alicante feels similar to many other European towns with coffee shops and bakeries never far away. We tried as many as we could and were rarely disappointed.
